ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE LEADING UP TO THE START OF THE CREATION OF ho(ME). IT’S ABOUT THE THINGS I’VE LEARNED AND THE PEOPLE I’VE COME TO KNOW.
In September 2024 I got the opportunity to be part of the QISSA Academy Visual Storytellers of 2024-2025 with 6 other visual artists. It was a 6 month program for starting artists from different visual disciplines to grow as artists and in the end work towards an exhibition.
The first phase of the program mostly consisted of branding workshops that teach you how to navigate as an artist in the cultural and economical field, and FIELD TRIPS to arts- and cultural institutions where we got the opportunity to talk with and ask questions to knowledgeable persons.
these workshops and field-trips were also opportunities for me to get to know the other artists i’d be sharing the exhibition space with.
meanwhile, each one of us also got a personal coach mentored in a similar discipline that oversaw the procesS leading up to the creation of the artworks.
ARIST VS. SELF
(Presentation slides from the artist branding workshop)
The dichotomy between my artist self and my regular self is something that has held me back from taking certain steps in my artistic career.
It was time to address this IMPOSTOR syndrome and to see how the two selves are rather amplifying each other.

A Q&A magazine created in Canva to go more in depth of what makes me different from my peers.

“HOME IS NOT WHERE YOU’RE AT, IT’S WHERE YOU RETURN TO”
After a few months of workshops and FIELD TRIPS, it was time to think about a proposal for the exhibition. The concept was revealed early in the process So there was enough time to brainstorm. I was encouraged to do research on the topic “Home”. I mostly verbally asked others about their ideas and tried to find out for myself what home is.
We presented our proposal in the branding workshop and for the curator. It was necessary to see if the idea was feasible and of standard.
The images below contain my proposal from that time. I had to consider all practical issues for this which was, in my opinion, the hardest part.
